About Code Enforcement
Code Enforcement is responsible for the enforcement of Chapter 203 of the Township's Property Maintenance Regulations. One of the primary goals is to improve and maintain Quality of Life for the residents and visitors of the Township by ensuring the Property Maintenance Regulations are enforced. Primary responsibilities include:
- Enforce the Township's Property Maintenance Regulations
- Register all Vacant or Abandoned properties
- Issue violations to property owners for failure to maintain their property
- Conduct required inspections for enforcement
- Investigate property maintenance complaints
Common Code Violations
- Deterioration and condition of structures
- Fences installed without permits
- Inoperable or unregistered vehicles
- Overgrown grass and weeds
- Signs on public property in Right-of-ways
- Trash, debris and rubbish on property
Registration of Abandoned or Vacant Properties
In 2018, the Maplewood Township Committee adopted the Vacant Property Registration Ordinance (#2891-18). This regulation requires that all vacant properties/ buildings are registered with the Township of Maplewood in accordance with Maplewood Code.
Owners of a vacant property must register within 30 days after the building becomes vacant or within 30 days after assuming ownership of a vacant property.
